Dental care for children in Langley
Unfortunately, there are higher numbers than ever for children with tooth decay and gum disease.
At Dentalcare Langley and Orthodonticswe believe that the best protection for children is prevention and so we advocate starting good dental care from a very young age.
Encouraging good oral hygiene and a good routine whilst young promotes the lifelong values of dental health. It also means children grow up with less fear and anxiety about visiting the dentist.
Children should start brushing their teeth as soon as they get their first tooth, and they should visit the dentist for dental check-ups as soon as they are able. Getting children used to the dentist encourages them to be more relaxed. It also builds confidence and trust as well as preparing children to take an interest in lifetime care for their teeth.
Dental treatment for children in Langley
Whilst prevention in dental care for children is key, we carry out dental check-ups to spot special requirements or any irregularities. Identifying them sooner rather than later will help create a long-term controlled correction plan for a successful outcome without risk.
Other treatments include:
Fissure sealants – this clear liquid is painted on to the biting teeth of children in order to help protect teeth which might get missed with a toothbrush. Usually lasting between 3 and 5 years, this sealant helps prevent cavities from forming. We will assess your child’s teeth to see if fissure sealants are necessary. Most children start to wear dental sealants at age 6 or 7.
Fluoride varnish – whilst fluoride is essential to your child’s teeth, too much of it can cause fluorosis – white spots which form on the enamel. At Dentalcare we will advise the right amount of fluoride for your child and should they need it, we can offer fluoride varnish to help prevent tooth decay. This quick process involves applying the varnish directly on to the teeth with a brush.
Children’s braces – we closely monitor the growth of children’s adult teeth and can make recommendations about types of braces for children should your child suffer with problems such as overcrowding, crookedness or issues with their bite.
